“Maranatha Aussies: Where Loyalty, Intelligence, and Excellence Meet”

Jennifer Maxey
Canine Care Coordinator & Animal Behavior Specialist
My Story
Jennifer’s journey into the world of dogs began later in life, but her dedication and curiosity quickly turned into expertise. While she didn’t grow up with dogs in her household, she was exposed to breeding and canine care through her grandparents, who raised Alaskan Malamutes. However, it was after marrying into a family deeply rooted in dog breeding and training that her love and appreciation for dogs truly flourished.
With a degree in Psychology and ongoing studies in animal behavior, Jennifer brings a unique and scientific perspective to Maranatha Aussies. She is fascinated by canine cognition and behavioral development, which makes her an integral part of the early stages of training and socialization. Her knowledge helps shape confident, well-adjusted puppies that are prepared to transition smoothly into their new homes.
A Critical Role in Puppy Development & Kennel Management
Jennifer plays a hands-on role in whelping, documenting each puppy’s birth with detailed records, including weight, markings, and health assessments, along with capturing first photos to track their development. Her meticulous record-keeping ensures that every puppy’s progress is carefully monitored from the moment they are born.
Beyond whelping, she manages kennel inventory, ensuring that all necessary supplies & food, bedding, medical essentials, and cleaning materials are stocked and readily available. She also oversees the sanitation and maintenance of the whelping rooms and kennel areas, implementing strict cleaning protocols to keep a safe and hygienic environment for both mothers and puppies.
Working alongside Kaylee and Trey, Jennifer inspects kennels and fencing, keeping a close eye on structural integrity and documenting any needed repairs or replacements to ensure the safety of all dogs on the farm.
She is also responsible for maintaining feeding schedules, ensuring that every dog and puppy receives the appropriate nutrition at the right time. Whether it’s adjusting food portions for growing puppies or monitoring the dietary needs of nursing mothers, she ensures that all dogs remain in optimal health.
Training, Grooming, & Capturing the Moments
Jennifer actively participates in early puppy training, reinforcing basic commands, crate training, and leash manners before puppies leave for their forever homes. She assists in socialization efforts, introducing puppies to new environments, sounds, and gentle handling to build their confidence.
Her role also includes grooming and photography, two of her passions. She enjoys bathing, brushing, and maintaining coat health for the adult dogs and puppies, ensuring they look and feel their best. Her eye for photography captures the unique personalities of each dog, providing beautiful images for potential families to fall in love with.
Her ideal day is a cool morning on the farm, surrounded by puppies running and playing while she captures their joy through her lens.
Applying Psychology & Animal Behavior to the Farm
Jennifer’s education and training in animal behavior not only enhance the Aussie breeding program but also contribute to livestock management on the farm. Her understanding of behavioral cues, learning patterns, and temperament assessment allows her to fine-tune socialization techniques that benefit not just the dogs but the entire farm ecosystem.
Her scientific approach, combined with hands-on experience, makes her an essential part of Maranatha Aussies. She brings thoughtful care, structured training, and a deep appreciation for the intelligence and adaptability of Australian Shepherds, helping shape each puppy into the best version of itself before it finds its forever home.
